Dr. P. Rajathi (02.02.1980–15.04.2023)
The untimely and tragic demise of Dr. P. Rajathi on April 15, 2023, has been a great loss for the editorial board of the Journal of Academy of Dental Education. The memories of this young and dynamic lady who was always determined to do her best at whatever she did are very difficult to forget. Dr. P. Rajathi was the Associate Professor of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology of Vinayaka Mission’s Sankarachariyar Dental College, VMRF DU, Salem and had been associated with the institution for over a decade. She was an integral member of the Research Committee of the institution and a dedicated academician who related with her mentees and students with ease and familiarity, always ready to help clarify doubts to the best of her knowledge. Her perseverant effort as Associate Editor was the reason that the Journal of Academy of Dental Education – a unique journal for undergraduate students has been categorized as a UGC Category 1 Journal since 2022. She had been instrumental in refining the journal presentation and functioning to its present form after repeated discussions with the publishers of the Journal – Scientific Scholars. She had guided postgraduate students in their dissertation work and both undergraduate and postgraduate students in their short studies. She loved her work and never compromised on any part of her work. Her meticulous documentation and attention to detail was exemplary. She was the recipient of Prof. Dr. T. R. Saraswathi Medal for Overall Best Scientific Presentation in 21st National Conference of Indian Society for Dental Research 2008. Her involvement in research has resulted in more than 15 publications of quality at such a young age. Her spirit of love, compassion with an ever-ready helpful nature made her a personality with a difference. To add on to that was her disarming smile which touched every individual who met her. It is difficult to find another person like her to fill the vacuum left by her loss. I along with the editorial board members and publisher of Journal of Academy of Dental Education pay our respects. May her soul rest in peace.
